Im not in zone 6a Tall cotton...but walking or Egyption onions are something that consistently reproduce & are producing delicious onions right now here in Iowa..and I am sure they would grow...

I looked up Egyptian walking onions and those are the onions I've seen growing "wild." Thanks Quills. Wild artichokes! That sounds interesting too.

also if you are looking for food over the long hall you can go with Oak trees,cattails,any nut tree that will grow in your zone you can always put down a piece of cardboard and plant a Zucchini in the...

farmers around here heat them cause they work their way out into a fiels from the roadside ditches....and clog the combine when they harvest. the stems are reall stiff and will stand all winter...
